Meet the American pro who quit cycling to become a DJ

Promising US talent Jared Scott walked away from the dream of a pro life to chase a different kind of beat as a DJ.

Jared Scott was on the path to fulfilling his childhood dream of racing as a professional cyclist until he pulled a dramatic U-turn to pursue the life of a DJ and music producer.

Last season, the 21-year-old was racing with Green Project-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè, the second-tier Italian team, and was earmarked as one of America’s brightest GC prospects.

“It was honestly amazing to be where I was,” Scott told Velo.

But within a few months, Scott decided to hang up his racing wheels and instead pursue an entirely different career in music production.

He was turning a hobby into his profession thanks to inspiration from EF Education-EasyPost’s Sean Quinn .

Whereas Quinn, the reigning U.S. champion, rode his maiden Tour de France this summer, his long-time buddy Scott has a new type of goal of becoming a world-class DJ and music producer.

“My daily affirmation is that one day I’ll play at Red Rocks [in Colorado] because that’s where I saw my first electronic concert and it opened up my eyes to how beautiful electronic music can be, fueling my fire to want to make music,” he said.

“Having grown up in Boulder, altitude and climbs is all we’ve got, so I was definitely a climber and a GC rider from the moment I started cycling,” Scott said, referencing his first forays into bike riding as a 12-year-old.
